Tongass National Forest supervisor Earl Stewart recently ordered Neva Lake Bridge, which runs over South Creek near Excursion Inlet, be closed to all vehicle traffic, including all-terrain vehicles, according to a press release the Forest Service sent.
The reason cited for the closure was a “critical finding,” structural engineer for the Forest Service Rodney Dell’Andrea told the Empire, saying it was a technical term for a structural issue with the bridge.
The Forest Service will place barriers to block access to the unsafe area until a final architectural and engineering determination can be made. Plans for a replacement bridge are in the works.
