Independence Day
Juneau Parade, 11 a.m., begins at Cycle Alaska/Department of Labor Building at W. Eighth St. (next to Douglas Bridge). The parade will start up Egan Drive on the mountain side, to Main Street, turn left on Main Street, turn right on Front street, turn right on South Franklin Street down to Admiral Way, to Marine Way to Egan Drive. Return to staging area on waterside of Egan Drive.
Free bus service every 30 minutes by First Student, Douglas to Juneau, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; Gastineau School. Juneau to Douglas, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Federal Building.
Douglas Community Methodist Church bell ring and food, bell rung at noon, deep pit beef barbecue 11 a.m.-5 p.m. or until food runs out. Located at the corner of 3rd and E streets.
Annual sandcastle challenge, noon registration, award time 4 p.m., Sandy Beach. Sponsored by the Southeast Section of the American Institute of Architects. Note: low tide at 7:46 a.m. and 7:54 p.m., high tide at 2:15 p.m.
