Construction will keep climbing up South Franklin Street, and the city hopes to be mostly done with the project by May 15.
One of the next steps is electrical work set for next week. Alaska Electric Light & Power will be moving the transformer at the Ferry Way intersection, looking to do the majority of its work at night. Some downtown buildings will experience power outages, but those will happen between 2-6 a.m. AEL&P will contact those who will be directly affected.
With concrete work at Manila Square almost done, Arete Construction will continue to demolish the road and sidewalks on Franklin toward its intersection with Ferry Way. After this, Arete will pour new curbs, gutters and sidewalks in sections.
CBJ and Arete might need to make a few adjustments to the original phasing plan, according to a CBJ statement, but they expect the project to be “substantially complete” by May 15. Pedestrian access will still be maintained.
