Because the Juneau’s Public Works Water Utility is no longer able to thaw frozen pipes, the city recommends that residents take preventative measures to prevent their pipes from freezing.
Leaving faucets running — allowing only a trickle of water — keeps water circulating and can help prevent freezing, according to a city press release.
City engineers also recommend closing crawl-space vents, properly insulating pipes, using functional heat tapes and disconnecting hoses.
Any Juneau resident whose pipes freeze should contact his or her plumber or contractor of choice.
