Due to a potential packaging defect, Gerber Products Company is voluntarily recalling specific organic pouch products. The packaging defect may result in product spoilage during transport and handling.
“There have been three consumer reports of temporary gastrointestinal symptoms, however, we have been unable to confirm that these are related to the product,” stated a company announcement for Gerber on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration website.
Gerber is offering replacement coupons for consumers who purchased specific batches of GERBER® Organic 2ND FOODS® Pouches: Pears, Carrots & Peas, 3.5 ounce pouch, and GERBER® Organic 2ND FOODS® Pouches: Carrots, Apples and Mangoes, 3.5 ounce pouch. For more details on which items are being recalled, go to http://dec.alaska.gov/eh/fss/recallsalerts.html.
In some cases, the pouches are bloated and the product inside may have an off taste or odor.
The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation’s Food Safety and Sanitation Program has confirmed the Alaska distribution of these products.
Consumers who purchased the specific food pouches are encouraged to contact the Gerber Parents Resource Center at 1-800-706-0556 for a replacement coupon.
This recall does not impact any other Gerber pouches, other Gerber products or products outside of the US.
