Gold Rush Days, an annual celebration of mining and logging in Juneau, are canceled for this summer, the Gold Rush Days Board of Directors announced on Friday.
The cancellation is due to COVID-19, according to a letter from Gold Rush Days Inc. President Jerry Harmon sent to the Empire. The event, which features mining and logging competitions, typically takes place in June at Savikko Park in Douglas.
“We thank our supporters and volunteers that make Juneau Gold Rush Days possible. We look forward to 2022 when we can gather again to celebrate mining and logging,” Harmon said in the letter. “Thank you for your understanding and your help in keeping our community safe.”
