Grand jury indicts teen in Anchorage shooting death

ANCHORAGE — An Anchorage grand jury has indicted an 18-year-old man on murder charges in a shooting death on a rural road.

State prosecutors say Kutay Bangout is charged with first- and second-degree murder in the death of 22-year-old Michael Miquan Mitchell.

Mitchell’s body was found just before 8:30 a.m. Aug. 22 at Mile 3 Campbell Airstrip Road.

The road heads south from Tudor Road past the Alaska Botanical Garden and is the only route into Stuckagain Heights, a mountainside subdivision.

Anchorage police say Mitchell had been shot multiple times in the head and torso.

The grand jury handed down the indictment Thursday.

Bangout was arrested last week on a theft charge and remained in custody Friday. He is expected to be arraigned Monday.
