Haines man arrested at Juneau airport on drug charges

A Haines man was arrested Tuesday night on drug charges at the Juneau International Airport under the suspicion of transporting controlled substances from Washington state, according to the Juneau Police Department.

Blake David Ward, 29, was charged with second-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance — a class A felony and third-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance — a class B felony.

On Tuesday at approximately 9:30 p.m. members of the Southeast Alaska Cities Against Drugs Task Force contacted Ward who they believed to be carrying controlled substances via Washington state with Haines being his intended final destination, according to police. During SEACAD’s investigation, officers found 25.11 grams of fentanyl powder, 13.41 grams of methamphetamine and 1.11 grams of cocaine all within Ward’s luggage, according to JPD. Ward was placed under arrest and taken to Lemon Creek Correctional Center.

The seized narcotics have an estimated street value of approximately $27,000, according to police.

Ward was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday afternoon, according to the Alaska Court System.
