Gov. Bill Walker announced last week that Franci Havemeister will leave her role as director of the Alaska Division of Agriculture on Dec. 4.
The Palmer resident was appointed in 2007 and is a lifelong Alaska resident.
While agriculture has a prominent position on the state’s official seal, it doesn’t have much of a role in the state’s economy. According to division records, fewer than 30 Alaska families make a full-time living from agriculture.
A search for Havemeister’s replacement has already begun.
