Batten down the hatches — there’s a storm a-brewin’.
The National Weather Service is forecasting heavy rain and rising water levels near Juneau through the weekend, and city officials are warning boaters to keep an eye on their vessels.
The City and Borough of Juneau Docks & Harbors office issued a notice Thursday afternoon asking residents to check their boats during stormy weather.
“Please make sure that lines are secure, pumps are operating correctly, and your boat is not collecting rain water,” the release states.
According to the NWS Juneau office, the water level at Mendenhall Lake was on the rise Wednesday night and Thursday morning. Showers are expected to continue through Sunday.
In the last seven days Juneau saw 4.6 inches of precipitation, more than half the average of 8.6 inches for the entire month.
