The heavy snow Juneau’s been receiving is piling up everywhere, including on the water.
The City and Borough of Juneau Docks and Harbors Department issued a statement Tuesday asking boat owners to take extra maintenance precautions with the snow as heavy as it is. This includes checking mooring lines, bilges, pumps and tarps, and the statement added that boat owners should remove snow from their vessels often.
Snow has been falling at an extremely fast rate in recent days, and the National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for Tuesday afternoon through 7 a.m. Wednesday, from Taku Inlet northward. The weather service expects four to eight inches of snow by late Tuesday, and snowfall could be falling at as much as one inch per hour, especially Tuesday night. The rate of snowfall is expected to decrease as the night goes along, but the snow Wednesday will be “difficult to manage,” the weather service stated.
