Those interested in Bartlett Regional Hospital’s new opioid addiction treatment have two more chances to learn about it.
The hospital has held three question and answer sessions about the treatment, which is an office-based treatment that uses a drug called Buprenorphine (the brand name, Suboxone, is more recognizable) to stabilize brain chemistry as addicts attempt to stay sober. The fourth question and answer session will take place at 6 p.m. Monday at the Mendenhall Valley Public Library.
The informational session is meant to teach the public about the program and also tell people how to seek help for a friend or family member dealing with opioid addiction. The Rainforest Recovery Center has been employing the office-based treatment since mid-April in an attempt to increase access to treatment and make it easier for patients to go through treatment while still going about their everyday lives.
Correction: An earlier version of this article stated that Bartlett Regional Hospital was holding a fourth and final question and answer session on opioid treatment that evening. There will be one more session on Monday, July 24 from 6-7 p.m. at the Mendenhall Valley Public Library. The Empire regrets the error.
