The Coast Guard icebreaker Healy will hold an open house on Friday as it stops in Juneau at the conclusion of its summer 2015 research voyage to the Arctic Ocean.
The open house will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the South Franklin Pier. Tours are free to the public, all children must be accompanied by an adult, and no pets are allowed onboard.
The Healy is concluding a two-month mission during which it visited the geographic north pole on Sept. 7 as part of a scientific effort to trace levels of potentially toxic elements in the environment.
In July, the Healy tested oil spill-containment devices with Coast Guard research and development staff.
