About 60 impounded cars sat in a parking lot on La Perouse Avenue on Wednesday morning, as Juneau residents came and inspected them.
Starting promptly at 10 a.m. Saturday, the Juneau Police Department will be auctioning them off in an outcry auction. The lot is located at 9390 La Perouse Ave., near the Juneau International Airport. Gates will open at 10 a.m. for the biannual event, which is a bit later than usual this fall, an officer said Wednesday.
The vehicles span 40 years, from a 1972 Ford pickup to a 2012 Nissan Juke SUV. A full list is available on the JPD website.
Wednesday was the public viewing for the vehicles, which ranged in size, age and condition, and numerous residents showed up. Attendees were able to look under the hoods of the cars, into the interior of the cars and wherever else they pleased. On Saturday, people won’t have the same opportunity.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, when the gates open at the parking lot. To be registered, attendees must be 18 years old, have a photo ID and provide their name, address and phone number. Upon registering, bidders will receive a bidder number. These numbers cannot be shared, and to participate in the auction, you must have your own bidder number.
All items must be paid for immediately after the sale of the item unless the bidder is bidding on the next item as well. JPD accepts cash, certified checks, cashiers checks or personal checks with sufficient identification. Buyers will receive a Bill of Sale when they pay.
Successful bidders must remove their purchased vehicles by 4 p.m. Saturday, and vehicles not removed from the area by then will be forfeited, and the amount paid for the item will also be forfeited. Any additional questions beforehand should be directed to JPD at 586-0600.
