National internet grocery firm Instacart has hired an Alaska lobbyist, according to filings released June 20 by the Alaska Public Offices Commission.

Instacart, which promises to home-deliver groceries from Costco and other retailers, launched its Alaska business May 31 in Anchorage. It has not yet expanded outside the city.

According to corporate filings, Instacart operates in Alaska under the name Maplebear Alaska LLC and is a registered Delaware corporation.

Instacart’s lobbyist is Patrick Carter of Anchorage. According to filings, Carter’s $2,000 per-month contract starts July 2 and covers “any and all aspects associated with the Instacart business interests.”

Contacted by phone, Carter said there are “no plans right now” for him to lobby on regulatory or legislative changes in the state.

Before the Alaska Legislature passed legislation allowing ride-sharing companies Uber and Lyft to operate here, the companies had an extensive lobbying effort in the Capitol.
