Interim principal named for Sayéik: Gastineau Community School

Sayéik: Gastineau Community School has a new interim principal, Juneau School District announced.

Stacy Diouf will be the interim principal for the 2020-21 school year, Juneau schools said Tuesday in a news release. The position is open following the resignation of Brenda Edwards, who has been the school principal since 2012.

Diouf is a graduate of Juneau-Douglas High School, according to the district. and is currently a student services coordinator for the district. She has 25 years of experience in education in Juneau, Seattle Public Schools and St. Luke’s School in the Bronx. She first joined Juneau schools in 2001, as a special education teacher. Before becoming an administrator, she served as a special education support teacher, according to the district. In that role, she mentored and trained teachers across the district. She also worked as an education specialist at the State of Alaska developing a statewide training program for reading instruction.

Diouf said in the release she is looking forward to her new position.

“I am thrilled to be joining the amazing staff and families at Sayéik: Gastineau,” she said. “I look forward to building off the amazing work that Ms. Edwards and her staff have engaged in over the last eight years. Here’s to a great school year.”

Diouf will begin her transition from the student services department at the beginning of the school year and take over the principal position full time by late September.

A search for a permanent principal for the school will take place in the spring.
