ANCHORAGE — Fairbanks fire and police officials say a fire that damaged a crafts store in August was intentionally set.
Fire officials said a lighter brought into a Michael’s Craft Store was used to ignite merchandise at the end of an aisle.
A youth is suspected of starting the fire and the case is in the hands of the Division of Juvenile Justice.
The early evening fire broke out early Aug. 29.
Fire officials said the store sprinkler system contained the fire to the end of the store aisle until fire crews arrived and extinguished it.
Direct damage was minimal but smoke damaged the store’s entire inventory.
