Students from the University of Alaska Southeast and Juneau-Douglas High School are nearing completion of an affordable housing project on Lena Loop.
The House Build Project, a four-way partnership with the City and Borough of Juneau, the Juneau School District, the Juneau Housing Trust and the University of Alaska Southeast, will soon pound the final nail in a single family home on Lena Loop.
To celebrate, students from JDHS and UAS will host an open house on April 21 from 2-4 p.m. at 16200 Lena Loop Road, on the corner of Point Lena Loop and Ocean View Drive.
The House Build program aims to “give high school and college students real-world experience in residential construction,” UAS wrote in a Friday press release. Students participate in every phase of the project, from design and planning to construction and exterior finishing work.
Once completed, the single family home will be sold to Juneau family in need of a new, durable and energy-efficient home.
