Jessica Geary has been named the new head of the Legislative Affairs Agency, the nonpartisan working arm of the Legislature.
Geary, the division’s former deputy director and finance manager, replaces Pam Varni, who had served as LAA’s director for 25 years. Varni had worked for the state for 42 years, 39 years in the Legislature.
Geary’s appointment was announced Thursday afternoon by Rep. Sam Kito III, D-Juneau. Kito is chairman of the Legislative Council, the joint House-Senate committee that sets policy for the internal workings of the Legislature.
