JPD chief reappointed to Alaska Police Standards Council

Chief Mercer will serve another four year term on the board.

Juneau Police Department Chief Ed Mercer was reappointed to the Alaska Police Standards Council for a four year term, a press release from the office of the governor announced today.

The release announced the appointments to Alaska state boards and commissions, including six other Juneau positions. Jen Winkelman, director of the Department of Corrections’ Division of Probation and Parole, was also reappointed to the board for a four year term.

The APSC oversees the certification of officers, the funding and training in place at police academies and departments, funding for specialized training, and help performing psychological exams and polygraph testing for smaller police departments.
