The Juneau Police Department’s annual low-light situational training will begin this week at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center firearms range.
As part of a yearly training cycle, officers practice using their firearms in low-light situations to prepare for various encounters during patrols, according to a JPD press release.
The first training is scheduled for Thursday and the final one takes place Oct. 13. Each session should end before 10 p.m. During the training, people in the Lemon Creek area might hear the sounds of gunshots coming from the LCCC range.
“We understand that firearms training in the evening can be a distraction, but it is vital to maintain training standards for JPD officers,” JPD spokesman Lt. David Campbell wrote in the release. “We appreciate the public’s understanding with this issue.”
