Juneau police are seeking the driver of a mid-size SUV who allegedly struck a pedestrian in the Mendenhall Valley Monday evening and fled the scene.
The unnamed pedestrian suffered minor injuries after being struck at about 4:45 p.m. while walking in the area of First Bank on Vintage Boulevard, the Juneau Police Department said on its Facebook page.
“The driver may not have seen the pedestrian until just a moment before the collision,” the Facebook post states, adding that it was dark outside, the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing and was walking where a “pedestrian would not be expected.” “After striking the pedestrian, who went to the ground, the driver did back up to flee the area apparently with the knowledge he or she had struck a person.”
Police said the SUV backed up until it reached the Safeway access road, and continued toward Safeway.
Police ask anyone in the community who witnessed the crash or has information on the driver’s identity or the SUV to call JPD at 586-0600.
