The thermometer reached 50 degrees at the National Weather Service’s airport measuring station on Sunday, tying a record set in 1998 and marking the first time temperatures have reached 50 this year.
Sunday’s warm conditions continued a pattern that has been in place since last year, which went into the record books as Juneau’s warmest ever. January 2016 had no measurable snow; it was only the second time that has happened since accurate recordkeeping began in 1936.
This February is on pace to be the warmest ever in Juneau, according to Weather Service records. At Juneau International Airport, the city’s official measuring station, Juneau has averaged a temperature of 36.7 degrees through Monday, a figure 6.9 degrees above normal for the month.
If that margin holds through the end of the month, this would be the third-warmest February since 1943.
February 1977, with an average temperature of 40.1 degrees, has the record high.
