The Juneau Icefield Research Program will discuss recent developments in the scientific exploration of the icefield during a Friday fireside lecture at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center.
According to the Forest Service, the featured speakers will be program executive director Erin Whitney and program coordinator Mary Gianotti. They will present a history of the educational program, discuss recent developments, and outline the future of the annual, eight-week student expedition that traverses the icefield from Juneau to Atlin, British Columbia.
Fireside lectures take place every Friday at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Visitors should note that the visitor center’s elevator is closed this winter for replacement.
