Juneau man arrested for manslaughter, DUI after woman’s death in 2023 vehicle collision

Passenger in truck driven by Patrick Dealexandro, 57, killed in crash at busy Egan Drive intersection.

This is a developing story.

A Juneau man involved in a fatal vehicle accident at the intersection of Mendenhall Loop Road and Egan Drive in April of 2023 has been arrested on several charges including manslaughter and driving under the influence, the Juneau Police Department announced Tuesday.

Patrick Dealexandro, 57, was arrested Monday on an outstanding warrant and taken to Lemon Creek Correctional Center, where he was held on $30,000 bail, according to a JPD information release. He was driving a white Ford truck with two other occupants that collided with a blue Toyota Corolla with two occupants, with a 27-year-old Juneau woman in his truck in the April 26, 2023, collision.

Dealexandro was medevaced out of town in critical condition at the time, and a 33-year-old man in his truck as well as a 15-year-old male passenger in the Toyota were also hospitalized with injuries, according to JPD. There was no mention by the department of significant injuries to the 18-year-old female driver.

A JPD statement issued April 27 of last year stated the collision occurred while the truck “was driving outbound on Egan Drive in the merge lane to turn right onto Mendenhall Loop Road.”

“The truck did not turn, continued straight, driving over the median island and crossed onto Mendenhall Loop Road at the intersection,” the statement noted. “The blue Toyota received a green light while in the Egan inbound turn lane and was completing a left turn through the intersection onto Mendenhall Loop Road. The truck struck the Toyota, then struck the intersection’s northern traffic signal light pole, smashing the front end of the truck. The truck ultimately landed on the driver’s side of the truck.”

Emergency officials arriving at the scene found the truck lodged against a traffic pole with the three occupants entrapped inside, with Capital City Fire/Rescue extracting the driver and injured passenger.

Dealexandro was arrested on charges of manslaughter, driving under the influence, first-degree assault, second-degree assault and two counts of third-degree assault, according to JPD’s statement Tuesday. JPD officials could not be reached immediately Tuesday afternoon to say why the arrest occurred roughly 18 months after the collision.

An Alaska State Troopers arrest warrant was issued Oct. 11, according to the Alaska Court System’s online database. He was arraigned Tuesday on the six charges he was arrested on and a readiness hearing is scheduled Nov. 27 at the Juneau Courthouse.
