Juneau man arrested on felony charges after apparent break-in

He faces more than 10 criminal charges relating to the incident.

A Juneau man was arrested by police early Sunday morning for more than 10 felony and misdemeanor charges after he allegedly broke into a Juneau residence and assaulted a woman inside.

Brennen Edward Brewer, 44, was arrested on one count of burglary in the first degree (a Class B felony), six counts of felony assault and one misdemeanor assault — ranging between the first-degree and third-degree (a Class A misdemeanor; Class B and C felonies), and one count stalking in the first degree (a Class C felony). He was additionally charged on misdemeanor criminal mischief, violating a protective order, and violating conditions of release, all Class A misdemeanors.

He was taken to Lemon Creek Correctional Center.

The Juneau Empire is not releasing the location of the incident or information describing the woman, as it is a longstanding policy to attempt to avoid identifying the alleged victim.

At about 4:11 a.m. on Sunday, police received a report of a disturbance in the Juneau area of what sounded like “fighting and people screaming,” according to the caller, who reported seeing a man run from the residence of the incident before police could respond or arrive at the residence, according to the Juneau Police Department.

According to police, upon arriving at the residence of the reported incident, the front door was already open and the door frame was broken, which police say initial investigation alleges that Brewer forced his way into the residence.

Located inside the residence was a woman who had injuries consistent with assault, and upon speaking with her police learned that she knew Brewer prior to the incident and had a restraining order against him.

The woman was transported to Bartlett Regional Hospital on Sunday for treatment of the injuries suffered during the incident.

“She is now in stable condition,” said Lt. Krag Campbell, a spokesperson for JPD Monday.

Brewer was later arrested without incident by police at around 4:27 a.m. while driving a vehicle on the Douglas Highway.

Brewer is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 4 p.m., Tuesday, July 25 at the Juneau Courthouse, according to the state’s court system.
