The Juneau Police Department arrested 42-year-old Sergius Sheakley on Tuesday on an arrest warrant for sexual abuse of a minor.
JPD officers located Sheakley at a residence on North Douglas Highway, according to a release from the department. He was transported to Lemon Creek Correctional Center in Juneau.
Earlier on Tuesday, an Anchorage grand jury indicted Sheakley on two counts of sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree and five counts of sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree.
The charges, issued by the Anchorage Superior Court, allege sexual abuse of two children in Juneau and Anchorage beginning in 2005. In 2014, the Anchorage Police Department Crimes Against Children Unit began investigating a claim by an aunt of the children. The children are family members of Sheakley’s.
Sheakley faces a sentence of up to 99 years for the alleged sexual abuse. Sheakley’s warrant requires him to post a $50,000 cash bail and a court-approved third-party custodian for his release.
