Juneau police officers talked a suicidal man from jumping off the Douglas bridge Friday night, and took him to the hospital for evaluation, according to police.
The Juneau Police Department received multiple 911 calls, starting at about 7:42 p.m. reporting the man was trying to jump off the bridge, Lt. David Campbell said in a press release. One caller stated the man was hanging by two arms on the opposite side of the railing and a passerby was talking with the man, trying to get him not to jump.
Two police officers contacted the man, who was still on the opposite side of the railing and were able to grab hold of him. After several minutes of talking, the man, identified as a 25-year-old Juneau resident, agreed to come back onto the safe side of the railing. The officers then pulled him over the railing to safety and took him to Bartlett Regional Hospital.
