Juneau Police Department Chief Bryce Johnson and Detective Sterling Salisbury will discuss how their department uses Crisis Intervention Team training to improve their response to individuals in mental health crisis, at a public forum hosted by NAMI Juneau tonight.
Crisis Intervention Team training is a community initiative designed to improve the outcomes of police interactions with people living with serious mental illness or experiencing a mental health crisis. The program helps build strong relationships between law enforcement and the mental health resources they utilize, according to a NAMI Juneau press release.
During the forum, “Improving Emergency Response to Individuals in Crisis,” Johnson and Salisbury will discuss the impact of crisis intervention on the community. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and offer feedback.
NAMI Juneau’s monthly speaker series, Inside Passages, which starts at 5:15 p.m. today, provides an opportunity for the public to explore issues connected to mental wellness and illness that impact us, our families and community.
Inside Passages takes place at Bartlett Regional Hospital on the second floor of the Administration Building. Refreshments and light snacks will be offered. These forums are free; to learn more, visit www.namijuneau.org or call 463-4251.
