Juneau Symphony season begins next weekend

Next weekend’s Juneau Symphony performances kick off its 2017-2018 season, which will include a wide range of musical styles and performances from now through next June.

The “Opening Night” event includes two performances. The first is at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21, followed by another at 3 p.m. the next day. Both shows are at Juneau-Douglas High School, and tickets are available in various ways. One can call the Juneau Symphony office at 586-4676, visit either Hearthside Books location, go to the Juneau Arts and Culture Center or order online through the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council website.

Next weekend’s concerts will include three performances: Finlandia, by Jean Sibelius; The Lark Ascending (featuring Fabiola Kim), by Ralph Vaughn Williams; and Symphony No. 3 in F Major, Op. 90, by Johannes Brahms.

The rest of the season features performances such as “Shakespeare in Love,” which features pieces inspired by Shakespeare’s work. The season finale, next June, features James Bond music from “Goldfinger” to “Skyfall.”

Correction: An earlier version of this article erroneously stated the Symphony’s number incorrectly. The correct number is 586-4676. The Empire regrets this error.
