A Juneau teen was arrested for drunken driving Saturday morning after he crashed and totaled his car near 19-mile Glacier Highway.
Daniel Justin Stevens, 18, was speeding inbound on the highway around 6:30 a.m. when he said he swerved to avoid another vehicle, according to a Juneau Police Department press release. Stevens overcorrected, lost control and struck a rock embankment.
He was driving a 2007 Ford Focus, which was totaled at an estimated damage of $4,500, said the release. It was impounded and towed.
JPD received multiple calls from people about the crash. A woman reported Stevens stayed with the car while a passenger, an approximately 18-year-old male, had left the area with another motorist. The passenger had a minor facial cut, said the press release.
Stevens had no injuries and was arrested for driving while intoxicated. A breath sample showed a blood alcohol level of .146 percent. He was taken to Lemon Creek Correctional Center and later released on his own recognizance.
The crash partially blocked the outbound lane of Glacier Highway about an hour.
