A cold and sunny weekend awaits after a winter storm ended the work week in Juneau.
The National Weather Service forecasts a drop in temperature and the parting of clouds after 8 to 16 inches of snow accumulates overnight Thursday and into Friday. NWS issued a winter storm warning through Thursday evening but expects the snow to give way to sunny and partly sunny weather Saturday and Sunday.
Temperatures are predicted to drop from slightly below freezing on Thursday and Friday to 20-25 degrees on Saturday and Sunday. Winds are expected to pick up to nearly 30 mph heading into Saturday and remain high through Monday. Gusts could get as high as 50 mph over the weekend.
Saturday’s forecast is for a high near 27 degrees and a northeast wind of 25-30 mph. Sunday will be partly sunny with a high near 23 degrees.
The skies will cloud over again Sunday night, with snow expected again next week on Tuesday and Wednesday.
