The Alaska Association of Harbormasters and Port Administrators used the words, “leader, mentor and innovator” to describe this year’s Harbormaster of the Year award winner.
Fortunately for boat owners in Juneau, those words described Juneau Harbormaster David Borg.
Borg earned the award this year at the statewide conference in Petersburg earlier this month. Borg has been Juneau’s harbormaster since March 2014, and City Manager Rorie Watt said the award is well deserved.
“Harbors are expensive to run, finicky in nature and used by several groups that don’t always have likeminded interests,” Watt said in a release, “yet David is judicious in his approach and oversees everything with skill, efficiency and tact. CBJ is extremely lucky to have him at Docks & Harbors.”
Docks & Harbors Port Administrative Assistant Jennifer Shinn also earned recognition at the conference, being honored as a 2017 Employee of the Year for being “a consummate professional and the Swiss Army knife of the administrative staff,” according to the AAHPA.
