ANCHORAGE — An Anchorage jury Thursday convicted a 39-year-old man of murder in the death of his uncle.
Prosecutors say Ralph Nayokpuk (neye-AHK’-puhk) was convicted of second-degree murder in the Aug. 6, 2014 death of 51-year-old Ronald Mullins.
Mullins was living at a home in northeast Anchorage and taking care of his 79-year-old mother when he got into a dispute with his nephew.
Investigators said the men argued as Nayokpuk cut garlic and onions with a butcher knife. When Mullins threatened to call police, Nayokpuk stabbed him.
Mullins suffered 11 stab wounds in his torso and back and two other knife injuries.
He fled and collapsed on his front lawn, where neighbors attempted CPR.
Nayokpuk is scheduled for sentencing April 15 and faces a prison sentence of 0 to 99 years.
