JUNEAU — State Rep. Sam Kito III has been named House minority whip, succeeding the late Rep. Max Gruenberg in that role.
Duties of the leadership position include helping the minority leader on the floor and acting as a parliamentarian. Kito is a Democrat from Juneau.
The appointment was announced during a House Committee on Committee hearing Friday, in which the Legislature’s newest member, Rep. Ivy Spohnholz, was given her committee assignments.
Spohnholz, an Anchorage Democrat, was confirmed this week to fill the vacancy left when Gruenberg died in February.
She is expected to serve on the House Education and State Affairs committees and on the House Special Committee on Military and Veterans’ Affairs.
