KODIAK — Public safety officers in Kodiak are now better able to fight fires thanks to new equipment.
The Kodiak Daily Mirror reported that village public safety officers in the Kodiak archipelago recently received 14 Fire Suppression Tools, which are portable units that can be thrown into burning structures to help extinguish fires and reduce temperature.
Kodiak Area Native Association VPSO head T.C. Kamai says officers in Larsen Bay, Akhiok, Ouzinkie and a traveling officer based in Kodiak have been issued the tools.
Volunteer fire departments will still respond to fires but public safety officers will now be able to fight fires while waiting for the departments’ aid.
