JUNEAU — House and Senate committees plan to start holding hearings the first day of the special session in place of a mass briefing by Gov. Bill Walker’s administration.
In a release, House Speaker Mike Chenault says he appreciates Walker’s willingness to hold a briefing for the full Legislature.
But he says time has been lost by not having bills to review ahead of the session’s start Saturday and legislative leaders feel more can be accomplished through the legislative process.
Senate President Kevin Meyer says committees will meet “as soon as we gavel in.”
A Walker spokeswoman had said Walker’s office would hold an hours-long legislative briefing on session agenda items Saturday.
House Majority Leader Charisse Millett says she hadn’t been invited to anything, and said lawmakers are ready to work on legislation.
