The head of the Legislative Finance Division has called out a mistake by Gov. Bill Walker in his attempt to veto $6.3 million in state education spending.
In an analysis of Walker’s vetoes, published this week on the division’s website, director David Teal wrote that the veto “did not reduce total spending.” Instead, it simply changed the account the money is coming from.
The incorrect veto was first reported by the Alaska Dispatch News.
Pat Pitney, director of the state Office of Management and Budget, told ADN reporter Tegan Hanlon that attorneys from the Alaska Department of Law will weigh in, and that she believes the governor’s intent to cut funding means the veto will stand.
