Floyd Dryden Middle School Mathcounts mathletes recently won the team competition in the Southeast Region Mathcounts Tournament and will be traveling to the March State Mathcounts Tournament in Fairbanks.
On Saturday, Feb. 11, Floyd Dryden Middle School and Dzantik’i Heeni Middle School mathletes competed in spring, target and team rounds. The Floyd Dryden team consists of Caden Morris, Dan Degener, Liam Kissling and Tyler Oudekerk. Degener received the individual award for most points overall while Morris won the countdown round. Dzantik’i Heeni mathlete Henry Hu will also attend the State Tournament.
At the state tournament, in addition to trying to earn a spot in the National Competition, the mathletes will tour the Fort Knox Mine and learn how to curl. The Alaska Society of Professional Engineers is providing plane tickets and lodging for the mathletes to attend the competition in Fairbanks.
