KETCHIKAN — Prosecutors in Ketchikan will consider charges against a 19-year-old man who broke into an occupied home to get out of the cold.
Troopers shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday took a 911 call from a resident along the North Tongass Highway reporting that an unknown man had broken his kitchen window and was inside the home.
The homeowner held the man at gunpoint until troopers arrived.
Investigators determined the teen was drunk. He said he entered the home to escape cold weather.
The young man told troopers he was a friend of the homeowner’s stepson and had visited the home months ago.
Troopers issued the man a citation for consuming alcohol as a minor.
Troopers referred charges of criminal trespass and criminal mischief to the district attorney.
