A month after a Juneau man was caught breaking into two businesses near the Nugget Mall, he was caught again after breaking into Dzantik’i Heeni Middle School.
Shawn T. Beaird, 34, was apprehended Saturday night after breaking into the middle school in the Lemon Creek area, according to a news release from the Juneau Police Department. JPD received a report of a burglary in progress at 8:16 p.m. Saturday and arrived soon after.
Police found Beaird inside the school, and eventually arrested him after he tried to flee the scene. Police found that Beard had forcibly entered the school and damaged property inside the school worth an estimated $4,500. He had also stolen a small amount of cash.
Police arrested Beaird for second-degree burglary (a class C felony), third-degree criminal mischief (a class C felony), fourth-degree theft (a class B misdemeanor) and violating his conditions of release and took him to Lemon Creek Correctional Center.
Beaird was currently on probation from an arrest on Jan. 19 when he was caught breaking into Chez Alaska and Papa John’s Pizza. He was charged with three counts of second-degree burglary, two counts of third-degree burglary, one count of fourth-degree criminal mischief, one count of third-degree theft and one count of fourth-degree theft.
