A Juneau man with an outstanding warrant was arrested last week when he tried to register a stolen vehicle at the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Angelo Martin Lerma, 22, was at the DMV building at about 4:30 p.m. Nov. 21, seeking to register a vehicle that had been reported stolen. Employees at the DMV alerted the Juneau Police Department, which then contacted the Alaska Wildlife Troopers, whose office is next door to the DMV.
JPD also alerted the Troopers that Lerma had a JPD warrant out for his arrest, so the Troopers went next door and arrested Lerma on the warrant.
They held him at the Trooper post until a JPD officer arrived and continued his investigation into the stolen vehicle. Lerma was then taken to Lemon Creek Correctional Center and remanded on the JPD warrant.
According to court records online, Lerma has two open criminal cases, including one alleging reckless driving (a misdemeanor) in April and another alleging drunken driving (a misdemeanor) in January.
