A 36-year-old man was killed Thursday night after a tree fell on him. Officials said the tree fell while he was clearing some land.
Juneau Police Department officers and Capital City Fire/Rescue personnel responded to a call just before 7 p.m. about a man crushed by a tree in the Sunny Point area.
“He had been cutting trees, and he was alone,” JPD Lt. David Campbell said Monday. “A person in the area heard him call out (for help).”
Officers reportedly found the tree had landed on the man’s legs, and heavy equipment was running nearby, including an excavator and a dump truck.
Emergency personnel tried to resuscitate the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of death is pending an autopsy, but no foul play is suspected, Campbell said.
The man’s name was not released, pending notification of next of kin.
