A man found guilty of sexual abuse of a minor nearly a year ago was sentenced to more than a decade imprisonment on Tuesday.
George Skeek, 48, was sentenced to 12 years in jail and 10 years of probation, according to the Alaska Department of Law. Skeek was charged with one count of felony second-degree sexual abuse of a minor. The original charge came from an offense in 2017, and required a retrial.

“In sentencing Mr. Skeek, Judge (Daniel) Schally found that an aggravating factor applied: that the crime was a sexual felony and that the defendant was more than 10 years older than the victim,” read an Alaska Department of Law news release.
The victim’s family made statements in court during the sentencing, stating the significant the sexual abuse had had on the victim, according the the law department.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Bailey Woolfstead.
