Alaska’s minimum wage will rise 5 cents, from $9.75 to $9.80 per hour in 2017, the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development announced Monday.
When Alaska voters in 2014 voted to raise the minimum wage, they also approved annual adjustments based on inflation, starting next year.
The annual adjustment is based on the Anchorage Consumer Price Index for the preceding calendar year. In 2015, that price index rose 0.5 percent.
“As a result, the minimum wage will rise from $9.75 to $9.80 effective January 1, 2017,” the Department of Labor declared in an email.
Under Alaska law, tips do not count toward the minimum wage.
