Monthly poetry slam combines forces with student group

For its monthly poetry slam, Woosh Kinaadeiyí is combining forces with a University of Alaska Southeast student group tonight.

At 7 p.m. Friday at the Walter Soboleff Building, Woosh Kinaadeiyí and UAS group Wooch.een will hold a “friendly wordsmith competition,” according to a release. The event is pay-as-you-can with a suggested donation of between $5 and $10. Local guitarist Jacob Pickard will play live music.

Woosh Kinaadeiyí is a nonprofit promoting diversity and an inclusive community as well as empowering voices, and holds a poetry competition on the third Friday every month. The winner of Friday’s competition will earn a spot in Woosh Kinaadeiyí’s Grand Slam in October 2018.
