North Franklin Street is closing a day earlier than planned.
Starting today, the road will remain completely closed to all traffic and pedestrians until Sunday, Jan. 31, at 6 p.m., according to city officials.
The closure was previously scheduled to start Wednesday, and the street was initially supposed to be re-open to vehicle traffic every night after construction work was completed that day.
According to a city press release issued Tuesday morning, the contractor handling the demolition of the Gastineau Apartments changed the closure schedule when it noticed several pedestrians ignoring “warning signs and temporary barriers” around the project site.
The release said the contractor, CBC Construction, has also installed more “robust security fencing” around the project site.
