The design of the new Juneau Arts and Culture Center (JACC) has involved community members at every step of the way, and that collaboration continues Tuesday night.
The Juneau Arts and Humanities Council (JAHC) is holding an open house from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the JACC, set up to get members of the community in touch with the architects who are designing the new building. The open house will involve architects from NorthWind in Juneau, Hacker of Portland and the Shalleck Collaborative in San Francisco. They will show off the most recent design and will listen to feedback.
In February, JAHC announced that Cornerstone Construction, based in Anchorage, will be the contractor for the project, working in conjunction with NorthWind and the Design/Construction Committee to design the new facility. The new JACC is expected to include a 300-seat theater, a 120-seat event studio, a large community hall, meeting rooms, exhibit space and more. The 37,000 square-foot facility will be at the same place as the current facility, at the corner of Whittier Street and Egan Drive.
This meeting will be the fifth public session since the project began in April 2016. Fundraising efforts continue, including an event in Los Angeles last week. The project still has a long way to go, as the Project Coordinator for the new JACC Katharine Heumann said Monday that about 17 percent of the necessary funds have been raised.
