No injuries were reported from a fire at Smith Hall Senior Apartments Friday night.
Capital City Fire &Rescue firefighters responded to a fire in an apartment at Smith Hall at 8619 Teal St., just after 6 p.m., CCFR Assistant Chief Ed Quinto said in a press release.
There was an electrical fire in a room on the third floor, Quinto said. A light fixture on the ceiling had started a small fire and the fluorescent light tube fell off the fixture onto the floor. The fire was extinguished by a staff member with a fire extinguisher.
There was smoke in the third floor building hallway and the fire crew ventilated the smoke with a “positive pressure fan,” which uses uses positive airflow to remove heat and products of combustion from a structure at a fire scene. There was minor fire damage to the ceiling, floor and cabinet, as well as smoke damage in the apartment and third floor building hallway, Quinto said.
No one was injured during the fire and the damage was estimated at $2,000. According to Quinto, the Red Cross arrived on scene to assist with the building occupants.
