Alaska’s First Lady Donna Walker is still accepting applications for the annual First Lady Volunteer of the Year awards.
Nominations for the awards, which honor Alaskans who make a difference in their communities and make the state are better place, are due March 8.
Donna Walker said in an prior statement that the volunteer work Alaskans do “day in and day out often goes unheralded.” These awards are for them.
“These are not the kind of people who wait for things to change, wish for conditions to be different, or get involved simply seeking recognition,” Walker wrote in a statement. “So many Alaskans are change agents with the highest motivation — rolling up their sleeves because they are determined to improve the lives of people in the community.”
The nomination forms are available on the governor’s website, www.volunteerawards.alaska.gov, and also in-person at the governor’s offices in Juneau, Anchorage and Fairbanks.
